Salisbury University And Future CAC Member Frostburg State Join Empire 8 Conference As Associate Members In Football

Frostburg State University (MD) and Salisbury University (MD) will become the seventh and eighth teams to compete in Empire 8 football starting in 2011 as affiliate members. The Bobcats and Sea Gulls, who are expected to play a partial Empire 8 schedule in 2010, will join Alfred University, Hartwick College, Ithaca College, affiliate Springfield College, St. John Fisher College, and Utica College.

Four former student-athletes and the founder of the athletic training education program will be enshrined into the Salisbury University Hall of Fame on Friday, October 23, as part of Homecoming 2009. The five inductees are Amy M. Cooke, Michael M. Giuffrida, Megan H. Block (Hopper), Kyle R. Jefferson and Hunter Smith. A reception and banquet will be held on Friday evening at the Guerrieri University Center in the Wicomico Room in their honor.

Stevenson University has announced that it is adding football to its roster of 19 NCAA Division III varsity sports for men and women. The University will recruit 40 to 50 student athletes for a developmental season to start in fall 2010 and kick off intercollegiate play in fall 2011.

The class of 2009 was inducted on May 2 in a ceremony on campus. The four student athletes (Brown, Coto, Epstein and Grimes were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Dr. Linda McMahon was the second person to be inducted into the Hall of Friends. The talented group were each honored by master of ceremonies, Scott Benson (class of '91) and then introduced by a coach.

This year’s class will include five members, featuring former soccer standout CHRIS BLELLOCH (’97), field hockey and women’s lacrosse All-American CHARLOTTE COCKRELL (’97), baseball standout ERIC GUYTON (’99), All-America soccer star FELICITY SMITH (’98), and tennis All-American CHRIS WALLACE (’97).
