A total of 14 former student-athletes representing nine different sports comprises the 2011 class of the Wesley College Athletic Hall of Fame. The sports of baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, field hockey, football, golf, men's lacrosse, softball and wrestling each will have at least one of its all time greats inducted in a ceremony to be held Friday, October 7 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts as part of Wesley's Homecoming festivities.

CAC Names A Record 1,023 Student-Athletes To The 2010-11 All-Academic Team

The Capital Athletic Conference announced that a new record of 1,023 student-athletes were named to the 2010-11 All-Academic Team. It is the first time in CAC history that more than 1,000 student-athletes, representing nine member institutions and 19 championship sports, were named to the conference’s All-Academic Team. Student-athletes in one or more CAC championship sports that attain a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year earn a spot on the CAC All-Academic team.

The Board of Trustees of Marymount University has announced the selection of Matthew D. Shank, Ph.D., as the University’s sixth president, effective July 1, 2011. Shank will succeed Dr. James E. Bundschuh, who has served as Marymount’s president since 2001.

Not only did Salisbury University rally in the second half to win the 2011 men’s lacrosse championship, but the victory in the last conference championship of the 2010-11 season lifted the Sea Gulls to capture the 2011 Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award by one half point over the University of Mary Washington. Salisbury captured six of the 19 CAC championships during the 2010-11 academic year and finished either second or third in three other sports on the way to compiling 166.50 points in the overall standings to win the all-sports championship for the sixth-straight year.

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Department of Athletics and Recreation inducted 30 of its student-athletes into the Maryland Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society. The large group equaled the Chi Alpha Sigma Induction Class of 2004 as the biggest group ever honored as 2004 marked the inception of the Maryland Beta Chapter at St. Mary’s.

TOPSoccer is a community-based soccer training and team placement program that brings the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, ages 4-19, who has a mental or physical disability. TOPSoccer was started in Arlington in 2002.
