The Presidents Council of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) proudly announced the addition of Penn State Harrisburg as a full member of the conference, beginning July 1, 2013. Penn State Harrisburg is the third institution, along with Christopher Newport University and Southern Virginia University, to join the CAC for the 2013-14 academic year.

The Capital Athletic Conference announced that a record of 1,109 student-athletes were named to the 2011-12 All-Academic Team. It is the second-straight year that more than 1,000 student-athletes, representing nine member institutions and 21 championship sports, were named to the conference’s All-Academic Team and the fourth-straight year the total number of honorees increased. Student-athletes in one or more CAC championship sports that attain a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year earn a spot on the All-Academic team. Nearly 40% of CAC student-athletes posted a 3.20 GPA this year (1,109 out of 2,822 student-athletes, 39.3%).

The Presidents Council of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) proudly announced Monday the addition of Southern Virginia University as full members of the conference, beginning July 1, 2013. Southern Virginia, which received notification last week of its approved regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), will join the CAC as a full member at the same time as Christopher Newport University, which announced its membership intentions in April. Southern Virginia also anticipates being promoted by the NCAA Division III Membership Committee from its current exploratory year to Division III Provisional Membership status later this summer.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its Capital One Academic All-American teams and senior Jennifer Houghton claimed cross country/track & field third-team honors. This marks the 19th Academic All-American for Salisbury University since 2001, and the first for a cross country/track & field student-athlete.

When the weather begins to turn cooler, thoughts around a college campus turn to Homecoming, and one of the highlights of Salisbury University’s Homecoming Weekend is the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. The 2012 Hall of Fame class will honor three members, who will be inducted this October. Former student-athletes Erik Miller, Lisa Neylan and Michael Svehla, will bring the Hall of Fame’s total number to 117, on October 12.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland Director of Athletics and Recreation Scott Devine announced Tuesday afternoon that Brian Wolcott ’05 (Silver Spring, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Julio Zarate ’04 (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mills) will constitute St. Mary’s Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2012.

With two national championships and NCAA championship tournament appearances by eight other teams, Salisbury University finished the 2011-12 academic year as one of the top teams in Division III athletics as the National Association of College Directors of Athletics released the final standings for the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. Salisbury placed 13th this year, one of the highest finishes for the Sea Gulls in the Cup’s 17-year history.

Salisbury University put together one of the most complete athletic seasons in CAC history, winning 12 titles and finishing second three times in 21 championship sports on the way to winning the 2012 Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award. The Sea Gulls totaled 205.00 total points - the first time a team has reached the 200-point plateau in CAC history - to win its seventh-straight Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award. It is the 10th time since 1998-99 that Salisbury has won the all-sports title.
