Gallaudet Senior Tamara Foronda Named CAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Gallaudet University senior volleyball player Tamara Foronda (Lake Elsinore, CA/CA School for the Deaf Riverside) has been named as the 2006-2007 Capital Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as selected by the league's athletic directors and sports information directors.
Foronda recently graduated from Gallaudet University with a 3.90 GPA . As an outside hitter this past season, Foronda led the Bison in kills per game and hitting percentage, and was third in digs. She was first in kills/games in the CAC and third in hitting percentage while being named to the double-double club 22 times, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 30-kills club twice and AVCA 30-digs club once.
This past season, Foronda was named to the all-tournament team in all five tournaments the Bison played while also being named CAC Player of the Week once and an honorable mention selection once. Foronda was named the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week once and received the NCAA Volleyball Statistical Champion Award for kills per game (5.89). She was also named to the AVCA All-Region and All-American teams during her four-year career as well as to the All-CAC First Team, while being named CAC Volleyball Player of the Year twice.
At Gallaudet, Foronda received the Comeback Player Award, the Female Athlete of the Year and was named to the All-Bison Team, as well as being named to Gallaudet's Dean's List every semester since 2002; the CAC All-Academic team since 2003; the President's Scholar Award from 2003-06, and the Phi Alpha Pi Honor Society.
