Mary Washington Senior Justin Baker and York (Pa.) Senior Chris Brower Named Co-CAC Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year

University of Mary Washington senior basketball player Justin Baker (Springfield, VA/ West Springfield) and York (Pa.) senior baseball player Chris Brower (Mont Clare, PA/Spring-Ford) have been named as the 2006-2007 Co-Capital Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year, as selected by the league's athletic directors and sports information directors.

Baker recently graduated from the University of Mary Washington (UMW) with a 3.49 GPA as a business major. He scored his 1,000th career point this past season in just three years at UMW, while leading the team in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebound (8.3 rpg) and assists (102). A two-time all-region selection by D3Hoops.com and a two-time All-CAC selection, Baker was one of ten finalists for the Jostens Award, given annually to the NCAA Division III Player of the Year as well as being named the Dickinson College Tipoff Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Off the court, Baker was named to the Who's Who among students in American universities (2006-07), the CAC All-Academic team, UMW's Dean's List, UMW's Athletic honor roll, and received the Ukrops Super Market/First Market Bank scholarship. He was also a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma honor society as well as Sigma Beta Delta.

Brower recently graduated from York (Pa.) with a 3.56 GPA as a marketing major. This past season he finished his Spartan career with a mark of 8-3 with two saves. Brower pitched in a school record 94.1 innings as he held opponents to a .204 batting average. His eight wins ranked tied for third on York's single season list while his 82 strikeouts and 94.1 innings break the previous single season records.

Brower finishes his career with school records in victories (27), innings (326.2) and strikeouts (242). He also finished fourth in appearances (53), third in shutouts (3), and third in complete games (13). Brower earned ESPN The Magazine First-Time District II Academic All-American honors, was a four-time All-CAC pitcher, a two-time ABCA All-South Regional selection, two-time CAC Athlete of the Week and four-time Spartan Athlete of the week. Brower was also a four-time York (Pa.) Athletic honor roll team member and a six-time member of the York College Dean's list.
