Hood's Will Oconis And Wesley's Andrew Guyer Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Team

Hood's Will Oconis and Wesley's Andrew Guyer were selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II At-Large team.

Guyer was a first-team All-District choice and will advance to the national ESPN The Magazine At-Large ballot while Oconis earned second-team honors.

To be nominated for this honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.

The academic all-district at-large squads are comprised of student-athletes from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Hood is a member of District II, which encompasses Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.

Geyer, a junior from Milford, Delaware, has a 3.92 grade point average as a political science major.  He has the President's List at Wesley with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all but one semester at Wesley, when he still qualified for the Dean's List.

On the golf course, Geyer was named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) First Team after finishing fifth at the CAC Championships and helping lead Wesley to the team championship.  He also tied for 55th at the NCAA Championships as the Wolverines finished seventh as a team.  He also finished fourth at the Mid-Atlantice Regional Invitational.

His 77.5 scoring average was third on the team and ranked among the conference leaders.

Oconis, who earned his bachelor of arts degree in economics and global economy major last weekend and owned a 3.85 grade-point average, took home his second academic all-district selection in as many years and is one of only two Capital Athletic Conference student-athletes to earn this citation. Junior golfer Andrew Geyer of Wesley College garnered academic all-district first team honors.

The four-year starter on attack finished his Blazer career as the program's all-time leader in numerous categories. Oconis, a two-time team captain, is Hood's career leader in games played (46), assists (29), face-off wins (173) and ground balls (161) and lists second all-time in points (57) and goals (28).

This past spring, the native of Baltimore, Md., started all 17 games and scored seven goals with a team-high 15 assists, setting a single-season record. He also paced the squad in face-off wins (52) and ground balls (48).
