CAC Announces Jan. 28, 2008 Weekly Award Winners

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Marymount sophomore guard TERELL WHITE (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), York senior All-American forward CHAD McGOWAN (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown), Mary Washington freshman SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, VA/Lafayette) and St. Mary's junior MICHAEL PRESTON (Pasadena, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) have been named the Capital Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports for Jan. 28, 2008.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Marymount sophomore guard TERELL WHITE (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) is the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 28, 2008, after contributing a career-high 26 points and adding seven rebounds, three assists in 40 minutes of a tough 76-69 road win at York to start a 2-0 week for the Saints. She drained a career-best 12-for-13 from the line against YCP. She also chipped in career-highs of six steals and seven assists in just 19 minutes against Gallaudet.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

York senior All-American forward CHAD McGOWAN (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 28, 2008, after averaging 23.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in two key victories for the first-place Spartans. McGowan posted a double-double with 24 points, hitting 8-for-13 from the field, and 13 rebounds in an overtime win over Marymount. He then helped YCP to a two-point road win against co-CAC leader Hood with a game-high 23 scores and eight caroms. McGowan converted a convential three-point play with 17 seconds left at Hood to keep York in a tie for first place with Mary Washington. It's the second time this season McGowan has been honored as the CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week (also Jan. 7, 2008).

WOMEN'S SWIMMING

Mary Washington freshman SARAH CROCKETT (Toano, VA/Lafayette) is the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 28, 2008, after winning all six of her races over the weekend, including three individual firsts, as the Eagles remained atop the CAC standings with a 5-0 conference record. Crockett won the 500 freestyle (5:21.62) and was a member of a pair of relays in Friday's 110-70 decision over second-place Marymount. She then contributed first-place performances in the 200 freestyle (1:57.94), the 200 backstroke (2:12.98) and a leg on the winning 400 medley relay in Saturday's 110-95 setback at Gettysburg. It's the second time this season Crockett has been named the CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week (also Nov. 19, 2007).

MEN'S SWIMMING

St. Mary's junior MICHAEL PRESTON (Pasadena, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) is the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 28, 2008, after winning three events in the Seahawks' first CAC team victory of the season. Preston captured top honors in the 200 freestyle (1:52.60), the 100 freestyle (51.60) and swam the third leg of the gold medal 200 medley relay in a 66-point triumph over Hood. It was the second-straight week Preston has recorded multiple victories.
