Salisbury University, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 10 sports this year, was the top finisher among Capital Athletic Conference members and placed 23rd overal in the final 2008-09 Division III Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings.

The Sea Gulls, who previously captured top honors in the CAC's Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award and the Men's and Women's Commissioner's Award standings, compiled 538.5 overall points with its NCAA Championship competition.  Williams College took the team title with 1066.5 team points.

It is the ninth time in school history, and sixth time in the last seven seasons, that the Salisbury athletics program is ranked in the top 25 of the final U.S. Sports Academy Division III Directors' Cup standings presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

The University of Mary Washington, with 260.50 points in six NCAA Championship appearances, placed second among CAC schools and 61st overall in the final standings.  UMW joined Salisbury as the only two CAC schools in the top 100 in the final standings.

York College (Pa.) was the third CAC school in the standings, placing 106th overall with 186.5 points, followed by Stevenson University and Wesley College, each with 83.0 points, St. Mary's College (Md.) with 77 points and Marymount University (Va.) with 25 points.

The Directors' Cup is presented annually to the nation's best overall collegiate athletics program in the country. Schools acquire points based on their success in NCAA tournament play for all sports.

There were 310 Division III institutions that earned Directors' Cup points out of nearly 450 schools in the country.
