Junghans, Levinson And Ward Gain CAC Weekly Basketball Awards

Hood senior guard RYAN JUNGHANS (Derwood, Md./Magruder), Marymount junior guard MEREDITH LEVINSON (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) and York senior guard KELI WARD (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) were selected as the CAC Basketball Players of the Week for Nov. 24, 2008.

  MEN'S BASKETBALL

 

Hood senior guard RYAN JUNGHANS (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was named CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 22 points and leading the Blazers to the championship of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College for the second time in the last three years. Junghans, the first non-LVC player to win the Tournament MVP award twice, posted game-high scoring totals in both games in the event. He shot 57.1% from the field (12-for-21), 77.8% from three-point range (7-for-9) and 100% from the free throw line (13-for-13) as the Blazers improved to 3-1 for the season with wins over New Jersey City and host Lebanon Valley.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Marymount junior guard MEREDITH LEVINSON (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) and York senior guard KELI WARD (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) were named the CAC Co-Women's Basketball Players of the Week after leading their teams to three wins and earning all-tournament recognition last week.

Levinson was the MVP at the Marymount Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament after averaging 17.7 points and contributing 11 rebounds and six assists as the Saints topped Richard Stockton, Ferrum and Gettysburg, all by double digits. Levinson poured in a career-high 27 points in the semifinal win, 17 in the championship game and contributed excellent ballhandling skills (only 1 turnover in three games) and defense in the tournament.

Ward averaged 16.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.0 assists in wins over Rowan, Albright and Johns Hopkins, the latter two to win the championship of the Mike Durgala Memorial event at JHU. She knocked down 48.5% from the floor, 46.7% from the field and 84.6% from the free throw line in the three victories. Her best game of the week was against Rowan, where she recorded her second career triple-double (21 pts., 10 rebs., 11 assts.). She added another double-double to her resume with 13 points and 13 boards in the tournament title game against the host Blue Jays.
