The class of 2009 was inducted on May 2 in a ceremony on campus.  The four student athletes (Brown, Coto, Epstein and Grimes were inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Dr. Linda McMahon was the second person to be inducted into the Hall of Friends.  The talented group were each honored by master of ceremonies, Scott Benson (class of '91) and then introduced by a coach. 

The ceremony began with Dr. Linda McMahon, who was introduced by athletic director, Bill Finney, who was hired by McMahon.  She was the vice president and prior to that Dean of Student Services, which oversees athletics from 1972 to 2003. Among other accomplishments, she oversaw the athletic department to its membership in the NCAA, expanded the number of teams from four to 12, supervised the transition from an all female school to one with males, led the change from part-time to full-time coaches and oversaw the renovation of the Lee Center, and tried for many, many years to secure a permanent field for the field sports.

Stewart Moan, former head coach of men's lacrosse at Marymount introduced Justin Epstein (class of 2002).   "Juice" was an outstanding goalie for the men's lacrosse team. He was a two-time honorable mention All American who still holds the Capital Athletic Conference record for single season saves with 285 which also places him among the leaders nationally in NCAA Division III.

Coach Finney was the coach for Marlene Grimes (class of 1990) and did the honors for her on this evening.   Grimes was an outstanding player for the women's basketball team. She was an honorable mention Kodak All American and was the all-time leading scorer when she graduated with 1,407 points. She is still MU's career leader in steals and led the team to its first NCAA postseason tournament.

MU's first men's basketball coach, Webb Hatch returned to fete Pablo Coto (class of 1993).  Coto, a men's basketball player, died on the court during his senior season. Prior to that he was an All CAC player, scored 1,102 points and helped lead the Saints to their first conference championship title with a win over Catholic University. During that game he was 9-9 from the floor and 11-11 from the free throw line.   Coto's award was accepted by his mother, Pilar Coto, who traveled to the event along with family from Spain. 

Candice Brown (class of 2002), was also introduced by Coach Finney.  Brown, another standout for the women's basketball team, was a two-time First Team Kodak All American and led the team to its only Final Four appearance in the NCAA tournament. She was a team captain, scoring 1310 points at Marymount, pulling down 650 rebounds and recording 270 steals.

This group was the fourth class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Hall of Friends.  They were feted by the largest crowd in the Hall's history.
