CAC Announces Weekly Baseball And Softball Award Winners For April 27, 2010

Mary Washington junior right fielder JACKSON CLEMENT (Fairfax, Va./Woodson), Stevenson junior 3B DESIRAE SULLIVAN (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and York sophomore pitcher BRITTANY THERRES (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) were selected as the CAC Athletes of the Week for April 27, 2010.

BASEBALL

Mary Washington junior right fielder JACKSON CLEMENT (Fairfax, Va./Woodson) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .625 (5-for-8) with a triple, homer, four runs scored and four RBI in the Eagles midweek sweep against Catholic University. Clement keyed Thursday's 7-6 victory with a homer, triple, two runs scored and two RBI.

SPECIAL MENTION: York senior pitcher JASON CHRISTENBERRY (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) helped the Spartans to a 5-0 week with two pitching wins. Christenberry, 8-2 for the season, threw five shutout innings in Game 2 of a DH sweep vs. Immaculata, then threw a complete-game victory over Christopher Newport, allowing two runs on seven hits while fanning six.

SOFTBALL

Stevenson junior 3B DESIRAE SULLIVAN (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and York sophomore pitcher BRITTANY THERRES (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) were named the CAC Softball Co-Players of the Week.Sullivan hit .636 (7-for-11) in three Mustang victories with two doubles and a homer. She had a hit in all three games, including a 4-for-4 performance against Washington (Md.) College, and tied the team's single-season record of 38 RBI by knocking in five runs during the week.

Therres hurled York to a DH sweep at Shenandoah as the Spartans improved to 35-8 for the season. She opened with a four-hit complete-game 1-0 victory, striking out four with no walks. In the nightcap, she allowed one earned run on four hits with two whiffs in five frames, raising her season pitching record to 26.5.
