Bill And Judy Finney Honored For Decades Of Service To CAC And Marymount University

Long-time Marymount University athletic director and women's basketball coach Bill Finney, along with wife Judy Finney, the long-time Saints' senior women's administrator and sports information director, were honored this week at the Capital Athletic Conference annual summer meeting.

The CAC Board of Directors announced that beginning in 2011, the annual award to the top women's basketball coach in the conference will be known as the Bill Finney Women's Basketball Coach of the Year Award.

Bill Finney also received gifts from the athletic directors while Judy Finney was thanked for her service with gifts by the senior women's administrators and the sports information directors.

Bill Finney, one of the founders of the CAC in 1990, saw his teams dominate the early years of the conference on the way to compiling 553 women's basketball coaching wins in 27 seasons.  The Saints won the first seven and 11 of the 20 championships in CAC women's basketball.

He is a five-time conference coach of the year, a one-time regional coach of the year and entering the 2009-10 season.  Bill Finney has led his teams to 16 NCAA post-season tournaments, including the last three seasons.  His highest finish was a Final Four in 2002.  In addition to that there was one other Elite 8 finish and seven other Sweet 16 finishes in the Saints' appearances, including 2010.

Prior to the beginning of the CAC meeting, Marymount announced that Debbie Warren, currently the AD at Hartwick College, had been selected as the Saints' new athletic director.
