Marymount University Names Debbie Warren as New Director of Athletics
Debbie Warren is the new Marymount University Director of
Athletics, according to Dr. Chris Domes, vice president for Student
Development and Enrollment Management.
Warren, who will begin at Marymount on
June 21, replaces long-time athletic director and women’s
basketball coach, Bill Finney, who retires at the end of the
month.
“We are very pleased to have
Debbie Warren join us at Marymount,” said Dr. Domes.
“We knew going into this national search that we would
have to find a special person to taken on the leadership role that
Bill Finney played for twenty-seven years. I am confident we have
found such a person.”
Warren comes to Marymount following five
years at Hartwick College, where she was director of Athletics and
chair of the Physical Education Department. She has spent the
past 25 years in college athletics as an athletic director,
associate athletic director, senior women’s administrator,
teacher, coach, Student Life director and championship event
specialist.
Warren is an active member of the
communities in which she has lived, having served on the Board of
Directors for the American Red Cross, on a disaster team for
aquatic rescues, and on park and recreation committees. She has
also taught Sunday school. In addition, Warren has contributed to
her campus communities by working on a variety of planning
committees and risk management reviews.
She has also been active with NCAA and other athletic associations.
Warren served as chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer
Championship Committee when she was the associate athletic director
at the University of Alabama, and she was the first woman to serve
on the NCAA Division III Football Championships Committee. She
currently serves on the nominating committee for NACWAA and on the
North Region Men’s Lacrosse Championship Committee.
A 1976 graduate of Mount Union College, Warren received her
