Joseph R. Urgo Selected As President Of St. Mary's College (Md.)

The St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) Board of Trustees named Joseph R. Urgo as the College's next president.  He will join the College July 1, 2010. 

Urgo currently serves as vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Hamilton College in upstate New York.  St. Mary's Provost Larry Vote continues to serve as acting president during the transition.

The presidential search committee, chaired by Molly Mahoney (secretary of the Board of Trustees) and vice-chair Larry Leak (SMCM alumnus and member of the Board of Trustees) was made up of individuals from the faculty, Board of Trustees, student body, and staff. The committee began work in March 2009 with the executive search firm of Isaacson, Miller.
