The York College Athletic Hall of Fame will grow by three as Jill Crouse-Wolf, Chris Showers, and Michael Jackson will be inducted into the prestigious fraternity on Saturday, May 1 at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

The 1998 Men’s Soccer team will also be honored by the College as they were the first team in program history to win a Capital Athletic Conference championship.

Jill Crouse-Wolf was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference first-team selection for the Spartans during her four-year volleyball career (1996-1999). She was a three-time captain for the Spartans while she also was a three-time team MVP for the Green and White.

Crouse-Wolf still holds the school record for career kills at 2,003 and career digs with 3,021. Up until this fall, she held the CAC record for career digs. Crouse-Wolf also holds five other school records including total attempts, digs percentage, total service receptions, reception percentage, and total games played.

Crouse-Wolf earned the top NCAA Division III digs per game ranking in 1999 while she was also a starter on the 1997 CAC championship squad. She earned the York College Georgia Heathcote-Stallman award signifying the outstanding senior female student-athlete in May of 2000.

After her playing career, Crouse-Wolf served as a Spartan assistant coach for five years. She continues to be an active player in the York County area.

Chris Showers ended his career as the most decorated Spartan men’s soccer player at the time of his graduation. He was a physical defender that helped the Spartan defense dominate opponents, setting a tone that has carried through the run of the highly successful and nationally ranked Spartan men’s soccer program.

Showers was a first-team All-CAC pick and first-team All-Mid-Atlantic region as a junior. He was the only junior to appear on that Mid-Atlantic all-start squad. He followed that up by helping lead the Spartans to their first men’s soccer CAC tournament title as a senior. He again earned first-team All-CAC accolades and second-team regional honors as the Spartans won 16 games and the conference crown. He was the Spartans’ team MVP for the conference champions.

Showers was a two-year captain for York while his leadership helped the Green and White reach unprecedented heights capped by the conference championship. The Spartan defense held opponents to 1.61 goals against during his junior year and a 1.14 goals against average during the 1998 season.

Michael Jackson was a Spartan standout from 1991 to 1994 as the Spartan men’s track and field program was one of the most successful not only in the CAC but also a regional powerhouse as the squad captured back-to-back CAC team championships in 1991 and 1992. Jackson was a 400-meter intermediate hurdle CAC champion in 1992 while he was a member of two conference champion 4x100 relay teams in 1991 and 1992.

In addition to being a conference champion, Jackson was a three-time second-team finisher in the 400 intermediate hurdles (1991, 1993, and 1994) and a runner-up in the 1994 110-meter hurdles. He was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second at the 1992 championships.

Jackson, who serves as a Spartan assistant cross country coach, has continued his participation in track after graduation. He has earned various championships in the USATF Outdoor Master’s National Championships, USATF Indoor Master’s National Championships, the national level of the State Games of America and the Keystone State Games.

The 1998 men’s soccer team finished the season with a mark of 16-4-1 as they earned the first of the program’s four CAC championships. The Spartans never got the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Tournament as there was no automatic bid to the national tournament like there is now. In fact, the 1998 season was the last men’s soccer season without the benefit of the automatic bid.

The Spartans rose to as high as fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region as they just missed out on participating in a much more limited post-season field. The season was also the last in the long and accomplished tenure of head coach Pat Massa who retired from coaching at the end of the year.

Five Spartans earned All-CAC recognition as Showers, Michael Biazzo, Joe Gossard, and Eric York earned first-team honors while Matt Shealer gained second-team accolades. Showers and Biazzo were honored as All-Mid-Atlantic regional honors.
