Wesley Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2011

A total of 14 former student-athletes representing nine different sports comprises the 2011 class of the Wesley College Athletic Hall of Fame.

The sports of baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, field hockey, football, golf, men's lacrosse, softball and wrestling each will have at least one of its all time greats inducted in a ceremony to be held Friday, October 7 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts as part of Wesley's Homecoming festivities.

In alphabetical order, the 14 members of the 2011 class of the Wesley College Athletic Hall of Fame.

James Binder - Football - Class of 1993 (1988-91)
Football Gazette National Player of the Week...Member of ECAC Bowl Championship team...Ranks in Wesley's top 10 in tackles, tackles for loss and interceptions...Four-year letterwinner.

Lynda Carey - Field Hockey/Softball - Class of 2002 (1997-00)
Two-time All-PAC selection...Member of PAC Championship team...Earned six varsity letters...Among the field hockey team's all-time leaders in points, goals and assists.

Chris Chaffinch - Baseball - Class of 2001 (1998-01)
Three-time All-PAC selection...PAC Tournament MVP...Member of Wesley's PAC Championship team...Member of team that set school win record with 26 (since broken)...Four-year letterwinner...Left Wesley holding its career records for hits, runs, games, runs batted in, and home runs...Held season records in hits, triples, stolen bases and batting average...Currently serves as the head coach at the Gatewood School...Former head coach at St. Andrews Presbyterian College...Served as an assistant coach at Wesley.

Tim Clark - Men's Lacrosse - Class of 2000 (1996-98)

Member of two ECAC Championship teams...Ranks in Wesley's top 10 for goals in a season...Holds single season points record...Third in career goals...Rates among all-time point leaders...Three varsity letters...Led the team in points all three seasons...Set school's single season assist record and rates among its all-time assist leaders...Led the team in goals twice...Team captain...Dean's List student...President's List student.

Trevor Holbrook - Men's Lacrosse - Class of 1998 (1994-98)
Member of two ECAC Championship teams...Four-year letterwinner and starter...Long stick midfielder routinely drew opponent's top scorer...Member of 1996 team that set school record for winning percentage...Dean's List student...Three-time team captain.

Derek Hunter - Men's Basketball - Class of 1971 (Junior College, 1970-71)
All-conference...Scored over 800 points...Twice scored over 40 points in one game...Two-year starter and letterwinner...Was a starter at Delta State and played on their Gulf South Conference Championship team that advanced to the College Division Elite 8...Went on to become a successful high school coach in Memphis, Tennessee, winning numerous conference championships in multiple sports and entered the year as the active wins leader in women's basketball among Memphis High School coaches.

Craig LaBarbera - Golf - Class of 2002 (1997-00)
Three-time All-PAC performer...Two-time All-American...Member of Wesley's first team to advance to NCAA Championships...Member of three PAC Championship teams...Three-time PAC Individual Champion...Four-year letterwinner...All-region...Won seven individual titles in his career...Dean's List student.

Duane Manson - Football - Class of 2001 (1994, 96-98)
ECAC All-Star...Football Gazette All-American...CoSIDA All-American...Named All-ACFC at two different positions (defensive back and kick returner)...Still holds Wesley's interception record with 17, interception returns yards and longest interception return (100 yards for a TD)...Second at Wesley in pass breakups...Four-year letterwinner...Team captain...Later served as an assistant coach at Wesley.

Duane Martin - Football - U. Phoenix Class of 2011 (1993, 95-97)
Football Gazette All-American...Two-time all-region selection...ECAC All-Star...ECAC Rookie of the Year...Tied an NCAA record with a 99-yard touchdown catch...Member of ACFC Championship team...Finished his career as the all-time leader at Wesley in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns and still rates among the all-time leaders in each category...Four-year letterwinner.

Stephen Pound - Wrestling - Class of 1966 (Junior College 1965-66)
Tri-State Champion in wrestling...Took Second place at the NJCAA Wrestling Regional...NJCAA National Wrestling Championship Qualifier...Member of Wesley's first wrestling team...Went undefeated at 152 pounds...Also a two-year starter of the Wesley College baseball team...Went on to win 100-meter championship for Western Maryland College...Played semi-pro baseball for Catonsville AA.

Earl Passwaters - Football - Class of 1971 (Junior College 1970-71) (Posthumous)
All-Conference selection...Member of JUCO All-Star team...All-American...Member of two conference championship teams...Two-year letterwinner...Went on to become a two-year starter at Florida State.

Bruce Reinert - Football/Wrestling - Class of 1971 (Junior College 1970-71)
Two-time All-American in football...All-American in wrestling...Two-time All-Conference pick in football...Wesley Athlete of the Year...Went on to start at Wake Forest and was a team captain for the Demon Deacons...Won Bill George Award at Wake Forest.

Joe Roberts - Football - Class of 2004 (1995-98)
All-ACFC selection...All-American...Member of ACFC Championship team...Played in three ECAC Bowls...Four-year letterwinner...Three-time team captain...Team MVP...Still rates in Wesley's top 10 in career tackles...Later served as an assistant coach at Wesley and is a coach at Cape Henlopen.



Kim Smith - Field Hockey/Women's Basketball/Softball - Class of 2002 (1998-02)
Two-time All-PAC selection in women's basketball...All-PAC once each in softball and field hockey...Named all-region in field hockey...Co-MVP of the PAC Field Hockey Championships...Wesley College Co-Female Athlete of the Year...Ranks in the top 20 at Wesley in assists in field hockey...Scored over 1,000 points in basketball...Rates among the women's basketball program's all-time leaders in points, rebounds, assists and steals, while holding the career and season records in three-point field goals made...Earned four letters each in field hockey and basketball...Dean's List student...NFHCA National Academic Team.
