Hood Inducts 10 Into Chi Alpha Sigman National Scholar-Athlete Society

The Hood College athletic department welcomed 10 new inductees and seven returning honorees into the 2011 class of Chi Alpha Sigma, the nation's first scholar-athlete honor society, in a ceremony at the Coblentz Seminar Room Saturday afternoon.

A total of eight juniors and two seniors comprised the 2011 induction class, representing the third Hood College class to earn this prestigious honor. Inductees must maintain at least a 3.4 cumulative grade-point average as a junior or senior and have earned a varsity letter in their sport.

In addition, seven seniors from the 2010 class were recognized as well for meeting the academic requirements once again in 2010-11.

All new inductees received a commemorative certificate, while the junior inductees received a Chi Alpha Sigma pin and the seniors received a Chi Alpha Sigma medallion to wear at commencement.

The list of 2011 Chi Alpha Sigma inductees follows below:

A first-year member of the volleyball team and English major, Ally Austin

A four-year letterwinner on the lacrosse team and management major, Kelsey Blackwell

A three-year member of the field hockey team and management major, Katelyn Bramkamp

A four-year runner on the track and field team and computer science major, Ola Komolafe

A four-year standout on the basketball court and a double major in history and secondary education, Allyson Lethbridge

A three-year member of the softball team who also lettered in basketball and biochemistry major, Bridgette Ringley

A four-year member of the volleyball team and management major, Kristina Straub

A four-year member of the tennis team and communications major, Phil Yerby

A two-sport athlete who played two years of softball before switching to track and field last year and history major, Krista Zerby

A three-year letterwinner on the soccer team and a double major in chemistry and mathematics, Jamie Bingaman

A two-year letterwinner on the golf team and history major, Tyler Fairley

A two-year member of the swim team and mathematics major, Andrea Haines

A three-year letterwinner on the tennis team and an English major, Carter Reitman

A three-year letterwinner on the tennis team and elementary/special education major, Laura Saad

A three-year member of the tennis team and psychology major, Emily Schrodel

A two-year letterwinner on the soccer team and elementary/special education major, Aimee Smith

And a three-year member of the track and field team and sociology and social work major, Mollie Widdowson
