The Sea Gulls totaled 205.00 total points - the first time a team has reached the 200-point plateau in CAC history - to win its seventh-straight Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award. It is the 10th time since 1998-99 that Salisbury has won the all-sports title.

The University of Mary Washington, which still holds the CAC record for most all-sports championships (11), placed second in the 2011-12 final standings for the seventh-straight season with 177.00 points. York College of Pa. scored 168.50 to place third, followed by Frostburg State University (105.00), St. Mary’s College of Md. (95.50), Stevenson University (88.50), Hood College (67.50), Wesley College (67.00) and Marymount (Va.) University (44.00).

Salisbury also captured top honors in the Women’s Commissioners Award for the fifth-straight year with 119 points in 11 championship sports. Mary Washington, which shared the women’s sports crown last year with the Gulls, finished second with 103 points while York was third with 82.50 points.

In the Men’s Commissioners Award chase, Salisbury and York shared the trophy as both schools finished the 2011-12 academic year with 86.00 points. It’s the third-straight year York has won the Men’s Commissioners Award. Mary Washington finished third in the men’s trophy chase with 74.00 points.

Salisbury won the overall all-sport title by winning four of the six fall-sport championships (women’s cross country, field hockey women’s soccer and volleyball), two winter season titles (men’s & women’s indoor track & field) and six spring-sport championships (baseball, softball, men’s & women’s lacrosse and men’s & women’s track & field).

The Sea Gulls also finished second in three sports (men’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis), registered third-place points in men’s cross country, women’s basketball and fourth-place points in men’s swimming. Salisbury finished with top four finishes in 18 of the CAC’s 21 championship sports.

Mary Washington captured five team championships this year, including women’s basketball, men’s & women’s swimming and men’s & women’s tennis, to earn second place in the overall all-sports standings. The Eagles also boasted second-place finishes in men’s & women’s cross country, men’s basketball and women’s outdoor track & field.

York’s third-straight Men’s Commissioners Award and strong performance in the all-sports title chase was bolstered by championships in men’s cross country, men’s soccer and men’s basketball. The Spartans also posted second-place finishes in women’s basketball, women’s indoor track & field, women’s lacrosse and men’s outdoor track & field.

Frostburg State moved up from fifth place in the 2011 Richard C. Cook standings, the institution’s first year as a member of the CAC, to fourth place in all three categories this year, although the Bobcats did not win any team championships in 2011-12. FSU’s best finishes were second-place points in men’s indoor track & field and softball, although the Bobcats ranked in the top four in nearly a dozen other sports.

Wesley won the men’s golf title for the third time in five years as the CAC finished the 2011-12 academic year with four institutions winning championships. It’s the first time since the 2006-07 season that fewer than five schools won a conference crown.
