The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team contributed in a community service project while the Salisbury and York men's and women's swim teams raised money for cancer awareness at recent events.

The Frostburg State University men's lacrosse team came together to support the local community this past Sunday as it visited nearby Rocky Gap State Park for a couple of hours of volunteer work.  The players and coaching staff painted signs, spread mulch, helped haul away garbage and stored canoes in an effort to help the state park get ready for the winter season.

Rocky Gap State Park is a 3,400 acre park located in Allegany County, Md., approximately 17 miles from the Frostburg campus. The park offers a range of recreation activities that features swimming, camping, fishing, boating, hiking and mountain biking. Rocky Gap also has a 220-room lakeside lodge and an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.

Frostburg athletic teams have also helped with the university's Storybook Holiday event, volunteered with Special Olympics, helped with reforestation efforts in Allegany County, participated in Safe Ride through the FSU campus community and have volunteered with the Western Maryland Mission of Mercy that provides free dental care to local citizens.

Many Salisbury University athletic teams take on the fight against cancer and the men's and women's swimming teams did just that last weekend at York (Pa.) College. The Sea Gulls participated in York's "Swim for a Cure" on Friday, Dec. 2, as they competed in a tri-meet against Goucher College and York College. 

The three teams were able to raise $625 to contribute to breast cancer awareness, with the Sea Gulls raising $570 of that total.  Since 2008, the men's and women's swimming teams have helped raised $1,942 in support of cancer research.

Recently, the FSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) joined Capital Athletic Conference SAAC committees from Mary Washington, St. mary's and Hood in collecting  over 4,000 pounds of food and donating it to local food banks for the holiday season.
