Marymount SAAC “Battle of the Sexes” Raises Over $7,500 for St. Jude’s Children's Hospital

Marymount University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its inaugural “Battle of the Sexes” competition on Sunday, raising over $7,500 for  St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The competition – spearheaded by SAAC Vice President Katelyn Fischer – saw 55 participants come out in teams of four to test their skills at a variety of yard and minute-to-win-it games.  Over 30 volunteers from the Marymount community helped run games such as can jam and corn hole throughout the afternoon.

“It was nice that the entire campus could get involved” Fischer said.  “Almost every athletic team was represented and those athletes brought in most of the fundraising donations as well.”

The "Battle of the Sexes" raised the money in honor of Keeley Imel, a childhood friend of Fischer's who was treated by St. Jude's.  Imel passed away on April 1, 2012, and it was her mission to raise money and awareness for the hospital that gave her five years of her life.

Although the “Battle of the Sexes” has concluded, donations will continue to be accepted indefinitely.  Donations can be made online here.
