Nine CAC student-athletes have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as members of the Academic All-District At-Large teams for their combined athletic and academic success, announced Thursday.

Mary Washington led the group with three student-athletes selected - senior women's tennis player Lindsay Raulston, junior men's tennis player Evan Charles and sophomore field hockey player Haley Kane

St. Mary's and York each placed two on the at-large teams. For St. Mary's, seniors Andrew Gear (men's tennis) and Thor Petersen (men's swimming) earned the honor. The York lacrosse duo of junior Tyler Hutson and sophomore Megan Strauch claimed the award for the Spartans.

Christopher Newport senior field hockey player Marlene Lichty and Salisbury women's tennis sophomore Natalie Savage also received the accolade.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced the first week of June.

To be nominated for the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
