Salisbury Head Athletic Trainer Pat Lamboni Receives MAATA Hall of Fame Selection
Salisbury head athletic trainer Pat Lamboni will be inducted into the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame on May 10 at the MAATA Symposium in Virginia Beach, Va.
There may be no other group of people that have an impact on more student-athletes throughout their careers than the athletic training staff at a given school. Salisbury has been fortunate to have outstanding students, professionals and leaders within the athletic training program over the years and recognition for the hard-working individuals is coming this spring in the form of major awards and a Hall of Fame induction.
The athletic training department has seen just two individuals at the helm, Hunter Smith (a 2009 Salisbury University Athletics Hall of Fame inductee) and Lamboni, over the 42 years of the program’s existence.
Lamboni has been the head athletic trainer for the Sea Gulls four 31 years, and currently oversees two full-time associates, two graduate assistants, two part-time associates as well as a host of student workers to service Salisbury’s 21 varsity sports, which have won 17 team national championships in Lamboni’s time.
Lamboni is an adjunct instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program which has produced many certified athletic trainers who work in all areas of the profession including the Super Bowl-winning Baltimore Ravens (Kevin Domboski ’02) and the National Champion football team from the University of Alabama (Jeremy Gsell ’04).
Thad Moore, class of 1996, who is currently the head athletic trainer at Washington (Md.) College, has been honored as the NATA Division III Athletic Trainer of the Year. Moore will also receive the NATA Service Award, a very prestigious award for his tireless work in achieving state license for athletic trainers in the state of Maryland.
Thomas (TJ) Morgan, class of 1996, who is the head athletic trainer at Archbishop Spalding High School, Severn, Md., will receive the MAATA Service Award for his dedication to the state and district endeavors promoting the profession of athletic training.
