Salisbury University, which recently swept all three categories in the Capital Athletic Conference all-sports trophy chase, ranked 13th overall and was the top finisher from the conference in the 2014-15 Learfield Sports Division III Directors Cup standings.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports during NCAA Div. III Championships - nine men's and nine women's sports.

NCAA Division III includes approximately 450 member institutions in 44 conferences.  A total of 322 Division III institutions scored Learfield Sports Directors' Cup points this year, including six from the CAC - #13 Salisbury (668 points), #33 Christopher Newport (438.5 points), #91 Mary Washington (201 points), $146 York (130.5 points), #185 Frostburg State (108 points) and #205 Wesley (88 points).

The Sea Gulls entered the 2015 Spring season second among CAC teams and 32nd nationally with 312 points, but scored points in five sports - including Top 8 finishes in the NCAA baseball, men's lacrosse, softball and men's track & field championships - to more than double their points in the final standings and register the third-highest total in the history of the program.

Salisbury, the second-highest finishing team in the Middle Atlantic Region, improved upon its 2013-14 finish of 15th place with 640.83 points.  It's the fourth-straight year, and fifth time in the last six years, that the Sea Gulls program has finished in the Top 15 in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.

Perennial powerhouse Christopher Newport finished second among CAC schools and 33rd overall, adding points during the spring season in softball and men's track & field.  The Captains also improved on their 2013-14 finish of 40th place with 390 points.

Like Salisbury, Mary Washington, York and Frostburg State all more than doubled its 2014-15 total in the Spring season.

The Eagles collected 114 points with strong performances in men's and women's tennis to finish among the Top 100 nationally with 201 points.

York's run to the regional championship game (Elite 8) in women's lacrosse garnered 73 points, increasing the school's year-end total to 130.

Frostburg State also made a lenghty run in the 2015 baseball championship, winning a regional championship and finishing third in the tournament.  It was the first time as members of the CAC that the Bobcats reached triple digits in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings.

FSU and Salisbury's success marked the first time that two CAC teams won regional baseball championships in the same season.

Wesley was the sixth CAC member to score Learfield Sports Directors' Cup points this season, advancing to the national semifinals in football for 88 points and a 205th-place finish in the final standings.

Williams College won the overall Learfield Sports Directors Cup title for the second-straight year and 18th time in the last 20 years with 1,053 points.  Rounding out the Top 5 in the overall standings were Johns Hopkins (1,016.75), MIT (961), Washington University (944) and Amherst (918.5).  

Williams and Amherst were two of the five members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) that ranked among the top nine in the final Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings.  NESCAC members Middlebury placed seventh overall (821.50) while Tufts (766.25) placed ninth.
