R. Todd Brooks, the Director of Athletics at Christopher Newport University since 2013, has decided to return to Berry College and his family in Georgia and has accepted the position of Director of Athletics.  He will begin his new responsibilities later this summer.

During his tenure, Brooks helped usher in a new era in CNU Athletics, as the Captains began play in the Capital Athletic Conference in 2013-14 and the move of CNU Football to the New Jersey Athletic Conference as associate members starting this fall.  The Captains earned a pair of Top 40 finishes in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, measuring overall success nationwide against all other Division III programs.  In 2013-14, the Captains also won the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award, representing the top "total" athletic program in the conference and presented annually to the league member accumulating the most points.
 
"Under Todd's leadership, Christopher Newport Athletics became stronger and stronger and we appreciate his many contributions to the success of our student athletes and coaches" said Christopher Newport University President Paul Trible.
 
"I am grateful for the opportunity President Trible offered me over two years ago when I accepted the position at Christopher Newport," said Brooks. "It is difficult to express the appreciation I have for the coaches, student-athletes and athletic staff during my time as a Captain and I would be remiss not to mention the profound impact it has had on my professional career. I am certain with the continued dedication and loyalty of those surrounding the department, that Christopher Newport will continue to grow as a premiere liberal arts destination and one of the most competitive athletic programs in our conference."
 
Associate Athletic Directors Carrie Gardner and Kyle McMullin will assume day-to-day operations of the department working with Executive Vice President Bill Brauer until the position is filled.
