MARCA Hosts NCAA Conference Rules Seminar at York College
Nearly 500 representatives from approximately 100 NCAA Division III institutions attended an NCAA Conference Rules Seminar on Thursday at York College's Waldner Performing Arts Center (WPAC).
The event was organized by the Middle Atlantic Region Commissioner's Association (MARCA) and featured eight NCAA staff members presenting information relating to off-the-field/court issues on recruiting, summer camps, in-season and out-of-season activities, and financial aid and admissions, among other topics.
Attendees included athletic administrators, coaches, staff, faculty athletic reps, athletic trainers, strength & conditioning coaches, admissions and financial aid personnel from institutions primarily located in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Primary MARCA conferences to participate in Thursday's Rules seminar included the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC), Capital Athletic Conference (CAC), Centennial Conference, Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), Landmark Conference, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC - Commonwealth and Freedom Leagues), New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), North East Athletic Conference (NEAC), Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and Presidents Athletic Conference.
Other MARCA member conferences include the Liberty League, North Coast Athletic Conference, Skyline Conference, USA South Conference and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) of NCAA Division II.
Attending an NCAA Rules Seminar is mandatory for every Division III institution at least one time every three years. Typically, these seminars are held in locations such as Atlanta, Denver, Indianapolis, San Diego, Houston, Dallas, etc., in conjunction with rules seminars for Division I and II programs.
This is the second time the NCAA has sponsored a Division III-specific rules seminar in conjunction with a local sponsoring organization and the first time it was held in the Mid-Atlantic Region. In 2013, eight Division III conferences in New England held a rules seminar (pilot program) with approximately 325 attendees.
