Frostburg State's Zach Keeler Named CAC Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year
YORK, Pa. – Frostburg State University senior baseball designated hitter/catcher Zach Keeler (Waldolf, Md./North Point) was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference athletic directors as the 2015-16 Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Keeler was a dual major in economics and business administration and graduated with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average at Frostburg State. He was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team for the second straight year, earning first team accolades in 2016 after being selected to the second team a year ago. He is the first male athlete in Frostburg State history to earn multiple Academic All-America honors.
Keeler is a member of the International Business Society, Beta Gamma Sigma, that is only offered to the top 10 percent of business students and is a member of the President's Leadership Circle. An NCAA Elite 89 finalist at last year's NCAA World Series, Keeler was named to the Dean's List all eight semesters at Frostburg State and he is a four-time CAC All-Academic honoree.
Throughout his career, Keeler compiled a batting average of .297 with 70 runs scored, 124 hits, 19 doubles, four home runs, 79 RBI and 154 total bases. He helped lead Frostburg State to back-to-back NCAA Regional Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 2015 NCAA World Series behind a school and CAC record 43 wins. In 2015, Keeler was a second team All-CAC selection and helped the Bobcats to the CAC Championship.
Keeler is the first Frostburg State male student-athlete to win the CAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award since the Bobcats joined the conference in 2010-11. He is the fifth baseball player to receive the honor, joining York’s Aaron Myers (1998) and Chris Brower (2007), and Salisbury’s Eric Willey (2009) and Andrew Levy (2013).
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a senior with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate athletic success and be a major contributor to his program.
