Salisbury and Christopher Newport, which recently tied for the Capital Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup all-sports title, each finished among the top 40 in the final 2015-16 Learfield Division III Directors Cup standings, announced Thursday.

Salisbury placed 24th (542.5 points) and CNU placed 38th  (425 points) to headline the nine CAC institutions that earned points throughout the 2015-16 school year. Five CAC institutions placed among the top 80, a first for the conference. Additionally, all nine eligible CAC teams (Southern Virginia becomes eligible in 2016-17) scored points in the Learfield Directors Cup, another conference first.

Mary Washington (71st/283 pts), York (79th/244.5 pts), and Wesley (80th/241.25 pts) finished in the top 80, while Marymount (240th/50 pts), St. Mary’s (240th/50 pts), Frostburg State (278th/25 pts), and Penn State Harrisburg (278th/25 pts) rounded out the CAC institutions in the standings.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports during NCAA Div. III Championships - nine men's and nine women's sports.

NCAA Division III includes approximately 450 member institutions in 43 conferences.  A total of 323 Division III institutions scored Learfield Directors' Cup points this year. The CAC was one of only five conferences with five teams in the top 80.
