The York College athletic department is proud to announce that Joy (Byers) Kennell, Heather Kessler, and Mike Troast have been selected for induction in the York College Athletic Hall of Fame. The threesome will compose the 26^thclass in Hall of Fame history.

Kennell, a 2002 York College graduate, was a four-year standout for the Spartan softball squad. At the time of her graduation, Byers held a number of Spartan school records including highest slugging percentage (.722), highest on-base percentage (.482), runs scored (115), most hits (152), doubles (37), triples (14), home runs (17), RBIs (122), total bases (268), and walks (52). She still holds school records for slugging percentage, on-base percentage, triples, and RBIs. She is second in program history in batting average (.482), doubles, home runs, and total bases.

Kennell was happy to hear of her induction into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame.

"I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to compete in college athletics and earn my degree from York College," said Kennell. "My participation in the softball program created memories that will last me a lifetime. I am honored to be an inductee into the Hall of Fame and join such an accomplished group of athletes."

Kennell was a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection including three first-team picks. She was named to the 2001 NCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team and was the 2002 Georgia Heathcote Stallman Award winner.

Kessler, a 2005 York College graduate, was one of the top players to ever wear the Green and White. Kessler was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection including being the 2003-04 CAC Player of the Year.

"As I reflect upon being inducted into the York College Athletic Hall of Fame, I can't help but feel humbled and extremely grateful for my four years on the Spartan women's basketball team. First and foremost, I would like to say thank you to the people who made this experience possible. I would like to give special thanks to my head coach Betsy Witman, for recruiting me, for giving me an opportunity to play the sport I love at the collegiate level, and for always having faith in my ability to succeed. I would also like to thank all of my teammates. It was a privilege to share to court with all of them and I would not be in this position without them. I would also like to thank my family for all their love, their support, and their dedication since I was eight years old when I fell in love with the game. I am truly honored to be recognized as part of this prestigious group of athletes."

Troast, a 2004 York College graduate, was an outstanding wrestler on the Spartan squad from 1999-2004. Troast owned a career record of 74-21 as he was an All-American at 133 pounds in 2004. He was a four-time Metropolitan Conference championship placer, including a runner-up finish in 2004, and led the 2003-04 to a 16^th place finish nationally.

Troast earned the Daniel J. Klinedinst Award in 2004, an award signifying the outstanding senior male athlete at York College.

"I am very excited to become a member of the York College Athletic Hall of Fame," said Troast.  "Thank you to York College for giving me an opportunity to be a successful student-athlete. I couldn't have done it without the support and guidance of the coaches, my teammates and my family."

Troast has moved on to a successful high school coaching career which features eight New Jersey state qualifiers including just graduated Spartan standout and 2016 NCAA Division III national qualifier Mike Spencer.

The threesome will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during Fall Fest Weekend on September 30-October 2. The induction ceremony will be held at Heritage Hills on Saturday, October 1.
