Frostburg State Announces 2018 Hall of Fame Class

The Frostburg State University Department of Athletics and the Office of Alumni Relations has announced that six former student-athletes will be inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018. The annual dinner and celebration has been set for Friday, October 26, 2018 as part of Homecoming Weekend.
 
The Bobcat Hall of Fame now boasts 208 members and the 2018 induction class marks the sixth time six or more inductees will be recognized.
 
This year's class represents five different sports, including two men's soccer players, and the group boasts four All-American awards and countless school records.
 
Duane DeVance, the 203rd inductee, was an eight-time All-Mason-Dixon Conference honoree and the M-DC high jump champion (6ft. 10.25in.) during the indoor championships as a senior in 1983.
 
DeVance is Frostburg's first All-American in the high jump for either the men or women's program's after he took fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 1982 (6ft. 10.25in.). DeVance also holds Frostburg's indoor (7ft. 0in.) and outdoor (7ft. 2in.) school records after setting both marks during his senior season.
 
The 204th inductee, Pete Merrill is the all-time leading scoring in the history of the Frostburg men's soccer program with 134 career points and 55 career goals. During his senior campaign, Merrill also set the program's single-season scoring record with 20 goals.
 
Merrill helped the Bobcats to three-straight ECAC South Region Tournaments and the 1998 AMCC Championship trophy. He is a two-time All-AMCC selection and was voted the AMCC Athlete of the Week four times. FSU won a total of 56 games during Merrill's four years.
 
Pete Tytus, the 205th inductee, was a four-year letter winner in goal for the Frostburg men's soccer team from 1989-92, helping the squad to 54 wins during his tenure including ECAC South Region Championships in both 1989 and 1992.
 
Tytus totaled 152 saves in four years with 19 shutouts and was named the ECAC Tournament Most Valuable Player in '92. The Bobcats won a then school record 54 games during his four years and Tytus holds the school record for goals against average (.53) after posting 12 shutouts in 1991.
 
Sean Warfield, the 206th inductee, was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American for the Bobcat baseball team in both 1991 and 1992. He was also a two-time All-South Region NCAA Division III honoree and was a two-time First Team All-ESAC selection.
 
Warfield hit .374 in his four seasons in a Bobcat uniform and was seventh in program history at the time of his nomination. He helped Frostburg to 82 wins, including ECAC South Tournament Championships as a sophomore and junior.
 
Janet Webb, the 207th inductee, was a four-year letter winner and four-year starter for the Bobcat women's lacrosse team and is one of the program's top scorers all-time. She is seventh all-time in points (201), fifth in goals (159) and 15thin assists (42).
 
Webb capped her career by being named a U.S. Women's Lacrosse Association Honorable Mention All-American and a Brine All-American following her senior season in 1986. She was also a two-time Brine Regional All-American and was twice voted as Frostburg's Most Outstanding Attack.
 
Mark Wells, the 208th inductee, was a Champion/USA Division III All-American Honorable Mention offensive lineman and ECAC Football All-Star as a senior in 1990 for the Bobcats. He helped Frostburg to its first two nine-win seasons in program history in 1989 and 1990 and helped FSU to 13-straight wins during that span.
 
Wells blocked for an offense that ranked fourth in the nation in rushing (327.0), seventh in scoring (36.7) and 20th in total offense (406.8) in 1990. That same season, Frostburg made its first postseason appearance in program history in the ECAC South Championship bowl game.
