FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Penn State Harrisburg senior Cameron Yon (Patuxent River, Md./Great Mills) was honored by the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) athletic directors as the 2018-19 CAC Male Athlete of the Year. 

The Male Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the CAC student-athlete who garnered superior athletic recognition and achievement, either individually or in conjunction with his team.

Yon, the reigning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mideast Regional Field Athlete of the Year, became the first national champion in Penn State Harrisburg history after entering the discus throw with the top mark in the nation and backed it up with a throw of 51.66 meters; a mark good enough to secure him the national title and the third USTFCCCA All-America honor of his illustrious career.

Yon registered a discus throw of 56.27 meters in late March to top all of NCAA Division III by more than three meters and best in the CAC by nearly 10 meters. His mark stood for the entire outdoor campaign and is a CAC record. He ranked second in the CAC in the indoor weight throw and the shot put, while ranking third in the outdoor hammer throw.

He also achieved a number of other accomplishments throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons, including: Two-time USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Region (Discus Throw, Hammer Throw), USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region (Weight Throw), CAC Outdoor Track & Field Co-Men's Athlete of the Year, ECAC Outdoor Champion (Discus Throw), CAC Outdoor Champion (Discus Throw), CAC Outdoor Championships record and Christopher Newport facilities record in the discus throw, third in the hammer throw at the CAC Outdoor Championships, third in both the shot put and weight throw at the CAC Indoor Championships, two-time CAC Field Athlete of the Week.
