CAC Players of the Week - Oct. 8
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Capital Athletic Conference play is now in full swing for all of the fall conference sports, with this week's weekly honors awarded to Tara Daddio of Salisbury field hockey, Olivia Davis of Christopher Newport field hockey, Justin Carey of Mary Washington men's soccer, Blake Gaetz of Frostburg State men's soccer, Riley Cook of Christopher Newport women's soccer, Kelcie Macomber of Mary Washington women's soccer, and Riley Garrison of Christopher Newport volleyball. Davis, Carey, and Cook are repeat award winners this fall.

FIELD HOCKEY - OFFENSIVE POTW

Daddio led the Sea Gulls to a pair of wins last week, accounting for seven of the team's 12 goals in the two victories. In Salisbury's 6-1 win against Catholic, Daddio notched her second hat trick of the season and third of her career. In Salisbury's first CAC game of the year, a 6-0 win at Frostburg State, Daddio accounted for two goals and a pair of assists. This season, she leads the team in both goals and assists while her 12 goals leads the CAC and her five assists rank second in the league.

FIELD HOCKEY - DEFENSIVE POTW

Davis was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after leading the 11th-ranked Captains to a pair of shutouts. On Wednesday against Lynchburg, she blanked the Hornets with five saves during a 1-0 victory. That marked the first time Lynchburg was shut out in over a calendar year. The Hornets had scored a goal in 22 straight games before Wednesday's clash. Following up that performance, she registered seven saves during a 3-0 triumph over Centre on Sunday. The Colonels entered that game ranked fourth in the NCAA in goals-per-game with a 5.00 average. With her two shutouts, Davis became the first Captain since 2016 to record back-to-back 70-minute shutouts. Additionally, coupled with her six saves at the end of the game against Mary Washington on September 30, she has now stopped 18 consecutive on-target shots. That is tied for the fifth-longest streak in program history and the best run since Bailey Lien established the school record with 22 straight saves during the 2014 campaign.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE POTW

Carey assisted on one score and added the game-winning goal in a 5-1 win at St. Mary's in No. 7 UMW's lone contest of the week. He has scored five goals and added two assists on the season, with two game winners. Mary Washington is ranked seventh in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches Association, their highest ranking since 1997.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE POTW

Cumberland, Md. | Allegany
Gaetz spearheaded a Frostburg State defense that shut out Christopher Newport and limited the Captains to just five shots on goal in a 1-0 CAC victory on Saturday. Gaetz also contributed on the offensive end, scoring the game's lone goal in the 89th minute of play.

Cook scored two goals and assisted on two more to factor into four of CNU's five goals in a 2-0 week. She opened the week with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 non-conference win at Methodist. Later in the week, she assisted on the game's first goal and scored the game-winner in a 2-1 victory at Frostburg State. Cook has now moved into a tied with teammate Gabby Gillis for the league lead in scoring with 20 points, and is also tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with four.

Macomber registered four saves as Mary Washington topped St. Mary's, 4-0, on Saturday. The Eagles improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in CAC play, and their four-goal win was their largest margin of victory over the Seahawks since 1994.

Garrison led the Captains to a perfect 5-0 record during the week with averages of 2.13 kills, 1.19 blocks, 0.50 service aces and 0.50 digs per set. On the defensive side, the junior notched 19 blocks, including nine against St. Mary's on Friday. Meanwhile, on the offensive side, she pumped three aces during both ends of Friday's doubleheader against St. Mary's and Marymount. The three aces marked her most in a match since her freshman year. Additionally, she led CNU with a .342 hitting percentage during the week, including 11 kills against Bridgewater on Tuesday. She also clubbed nine kills on only 16 swings during the squad's sweep over Marymount on Friday.
