CAC Players of the Week - Oct. 9

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Cross country enters its home stretch heading towards the CAC Championships on Oct. 27, while split-season sports golf and tennis are nearing the conclusion of their fall campaigns as we approach mid-October. This week's weekly awards were given to Robert Romano of Frostburg State men's cross country, Logan Funk of Christopher Newport women's cross country, Tyler Newton of York men's golf, Jordan Koller of York women's golf, Paul Monson of Southern Virginia men's tennis, and Allison Paul of Frostburg State women's tennis.

CAC Players of the Week

Oct. 1 - 7

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Robert Romano | Frostburg State | Sr. 

Great Mills, Md. | Great Mills

Romano led the Bobcats with a seventh-place finish out of a field over 250 runners at the DeSales Invitational. He completed the course in 26:15.2, marking his fifth-consecutive top-10 effort in as many meets in the 2018 campaign.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Logan Funk | Christopher Newport | Fr. 

Falls Church, Va.  | George Mason

Funk posted the top time on the women's side of the 3k during the CNU Invitational on Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion. During the race, she finished in 11:20, beating the next closest competitor by 16 seconds.

MEN'S GOLF

Tyler Newton | York | Sr. 

Bel Air, Md. | Bel Air

Newton posted a pair of top-10 individual finishes over the past two weeks, including a second-place finish with a two-day total of -5 under par at the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational. At Oglethorpe, Newton fired off rounds of 69-70 to place second individually in a field of 102 golfers. He followed up that performance with an eighth-place finish at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic, shooting 71-77 for a two-day total of four-over-par 148.

WOMEN'S GOLF

Jordan Koller | York | Fr. 

Brookeville, Md. | Sherwood

Koller became the second Spartan in school history to earn a tournament win as she captured the individual title at the Green Turtle Invitational hosted by Shenandoah. Koller earned a one-stroke victory with a two-day total of 151. She shot 77 on Saturday and followed that with a three-over par 74 on Sunday to win by one. She also led the Spartans to their second tournament championship in the two -ear history of the program.

MEN'S TENNIS

Paul Monson | Southern Virginia | So. 

Provo, Utah | Timpview

Monson went undefeated at No. 1 singles and 2-1 in doubles in victories over Pfeiffer, Averett, and Randolph for the Knights. He notched straight-set wins against Pfeiffer and Randolph and a three-set triumph vs. Averett. In doubles, he teamed with Kukutla Motlojoa for an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 spot vs. Randolph, and collected an 8-1 win at No. 2 with Andrew Blonquist against Pfeiffer.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Allison Paul | Frostburg State | Jr. 

Frostburg, Md. | Northern Garrett

Paul went 3-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles over the past two weeks for the Bobcats. Playing at No. 3 singles, she earned three-set victories over Penn State Altoona and Bethany (W.V.), sandwiched by a straight-set victory vs. Pitt-Greensburg. She also teamed with Elizabeth Mott for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles against Bethany.
