CAC Players of the Week - Sept. 17

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Week three of the fall 2018 season was marred by the threat of Hurricane Florence, with several CAC institutions closing their campuses and numerous game cancellations and postponements throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Many contests went on as planned, however, with weekly honors awarded to Lauren Hopkins of Mary Washington field hockey, Domanique Farrace of Salisbury field hockey, Madison Hemler of Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer, Regan Benton of Salisbury women's soccer, Joey Aman of Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer, Trevor Brookhart of Salisbury men's soccer, and Madyson Whitcomb of York volleyball.

Sept. 10 - 16

FIELD HOCKEY - OFFENSIVE POTW

Lauren Hopkins | Mary Washington | Jr. | F

Virginia Beach, Va. | Kempsville

Hopkins scored a career-high four goals on just four shots in a 5-3 win over Lynchburg. Her four goals came within one score of tying the UMW single-game goals record. She leads the Eagles with six goals and one assist through five games (13 points).

FIELD HOCKEY - DEFENSIVE POTW

Domanique Farrace | Salisbury | So. | GK

Pocomoke, Md. | Pocomoke

Farrace earned a pair of wins last week and was the final line of defense to begin a pair of shutouts. She turned away all four shots that got to her on target, playing just over 118 minutes in net as the Sea Gulls won 6-0 and 5-0 against Washington College and Cabrini, respectively.

MEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE POTW

Joey Aman | Penn State Harrisburg | So. | F

Annapolis, Md. | Broadneck

Aman continued his torrid start to the season with four total goals last week in victories over Penn State Berks and Brooklyn College. Aman found the back of the net twice in each contest, including the game-winner vs. Penn State Berks. He now leads the CAC in goals scored this season with nine.

MEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE POTW

Trevor Brookhart | Salisbury | Sr. | GK

Eldersburg, Md. | Liberty

Brookhart posted a pair of shutuots and totaled eight saves to help the Sea Gulls to a 2-0 week with wins over Washington College and Misericordia. Brookhart and the Sea Gulls have now won six straight games and have recorded five clean sheets on the season. His 1.000 save percentage in the two games last week improved his save percentage to .903 on the season, while he lowered his goals against average to 0.43.

WOMEN'S SOCCER - OFFENSIVE POTW

Madison Hemler | Penn State Harrisburg | Jr. | M

Boiling Springs, Pa. | Boiling Springs

Hemler tallied three goals and two assists in a 3-0 week for the Lions. She opened the week with the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory over Lancaster Bible, before notching a goal and an assist in victories against Eastern (2-1) and Immaculata (3-0).

WOMEN'S SOCCER - DEFENSIVE POTW

Regan Benton | Salisbury | Fr. | GK

North Easton, Mass. | Oliver Ames

Benton posted 11 saves and allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of work between the pipes in a 1-0-1 week for the Sea Gulls. In Saturday's 3-0 victory at Shenandoah, she notched her first career victory and shutout with eight saves. She followed that up with three saves in 110 minutes of action during Sunday's 1-1 tie with Catholic. For the week, she recorded a 0.45 goals against average and .917 save percentage.

VOLLEYBALL 

Madyson Whitcomb | York | Jr. | MH

East Berlin, Pa. | Bermudian Springs

Whitcomb averaged 4.0 kills per set while hitting a superb .477 in a 3-1 week for the Spartans that included the team championship at the Messiah Invitational. Whitcomb registered double-digit kills in each of the Spartans' three wins, including a career-high 23 kills in a four-set win over Messiah. She also totaled six blocks for an average of 0.4 blocks per set throughout the week.
