Four CAC Schools Ranked in Final Fall Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Christopher Newport is ranked 26th in the final fall standings of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, headlining a contingent of four Capital Athletic Conference schools in the rankings. Along with CNU, other CAC schools in the standings include Mary Washington in 63rd place, Salisbury in 74th position and Frostburg State in 91st. 

Johns Hopkins is in first place overall with 475 points, followed by Tufts (353.5) and Middlebury (345.5) in the top three. 

Christopher Newport notched 164 points to conclude the fall season. The Captains tallied points in men's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball. Women's soccer led the way with a semifinal appearance at the national championships, contributing 83 points to the Captains' total. Volleyball collected 50 points after finishing 17th, while men's cross country took 33rd to earn 31 points. 

Mary Washington placed second among CAC teams in 63rd place with 75 points. The Eagles scored points in volleyball (17th, 50 points) and men's soccer (33rd, 25 points).

Salisbury totaled 70 points to place 74th with yet another NCAA appearance from the Sea Gulls' field hockey squad who finished fifth for 70 points. The Sea Gulls fell in a penalty kick shootout to Tufts in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

Frostburg State collected 53 points with a ninth place finish in football to sit in 91st position after the fall season.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.

The Division III winter standings will be released in mid March.
