Jacen Killebrew And Mike Celenza Named CAC Baseball Co-Players Of The Week

St. Mary’s sophomore OF JACEN KILLEBREW (La Plata, Md./La Plata) and Salisbury sophomore 1B MIKE CELENZA (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) were named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Co-Players of the Week for April 28, 2008. Killebrew hit .500 (7-for-14) with four runs scored and five RBI. Killebrew had a pair of multiple RBI games for the Seahawks, who won three of five games. Celenza drilled a pair of two-run homers to lift the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls to an 8-3 win over Christopher Newport. Celenza’s first bomb, in the fifth inning, tied the game, and he added a two-run insurance shot, his sixth homer of the season, in the eighth.

Salisbury freshman SS WILL EVANS (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for April 14, 2008 after recording a .621 on-base percentage (18-for-29) in six SU wins over CAC rivals as the Sea Gulls clinched first place in the regular-season standings. In a twinbill vs. Mary Washington, the rookie infielder was 5-for-8 with his second homer of the season and eight RBI. For the week, he was 7-for-18 at the plate with nine walks, was hit by a pitch twice, drove in 10 runs, scored eight runs and stole a base.

Mary Washington sophomore 3B WILL WRIGHT (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis Priory) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for April 7, 2008 after hitting .615 (8-for-13) with five runs scored and three RBI in a three-game series against Villa Julie, helping the Eagles clinch at least second place in the CAC. Wright contributed four hits in the last two innings of UMW’s come-from-behind victories over the Mustangs.

Wesley sophomore relief pitcher COLIN WARNER (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 31, 2008 after picking up a pair of extra-inning victories in three CAC appearances last week. Warner threw two scoreless innings in a setback vs. league-leading Salisbury, then struck out four and allowed just one hit in three innings in an 11-inning come-from-behind win over Villa Julie. Warner finished the week with another win over VJ in which he surrendered a run on two hits while fanning three in three frames.

Mary Washington freshman 2B ERIC REHBEIN (Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week award for March 24, 2008 after contributing two hits in all three UMW wins last week. He was instrumental in a CAC DH sweep vs. York with three singles, a triple, four runs scored and four RBI.

Wesley junior outfielder STU MADDEN (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week award for March 10, 2008 after hitting .609 and leading the Wolverines to five wins in six games. Madden, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games and had at least two hits and two runs scored in five of the six contests last week, contributed 14 hits, five walks, 11 runs scored, 10 RBI and was 10-for-10 in stolen bases as Wesley improved to 9-1 overall.
