Salisbury University senior baseball pitcher Eric Willey (Cambridge, Md./Cambridge) was selected by the Capital Athletic Conference athletic directors and sports information directors as the 2009 CAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Willey is the third Salisbury student-athlete to win the CAC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the inception of the award in 1992. Men's soccer standouts Michael Giuffrida (1999) and Dan Meehan (2004) were previous Salisbury University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorees.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate athletic success and be a major contributor to his program.

Willey is a business major with a 3.69 grade point average. He has been named to the All-CAC Academic Honor Roll and Salisbury University Dean's List each of the past three years. He was also chosen as the 2009 Salisbury University Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was recently named a second-team member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Baseball Team.

He was a four-year member of the Sea Gulls' nationally-ranked baseball team. He compiled a 24-6 record with seven saves and 226 strike outs in 67 career appearances. He is a two-time member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America team and a 2008 D3baseball.com All-American.

In 2008, Willey boasted an 11-1 record with a 2.58 earned run average on the way to earning CAC Co-Player of the Year, ECAC Pitcher of the Year and third-team ABCA All-America recognition.

Among his many extracurricular activities and honors, Willey contributed as a volunteer at the Glen Avenue Elementary School and the Badges for Baseball program.
