Salisbury senior third baseman BRIAN GREEN and Frostburg State senior pitcher GREG ROSS were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Green was named the Baseball Player of the Week after going 5-for-10 for the week, including a 4-for-5 effort during a two-game weekend sweep vs. regionally-ranked Methodist with two singles, a double, two homers, a walk, 5 RBI and two runs scored. Ross was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after picking up a pair of victories. He threw seven innings with five strikeouts in a victory over third-ranked Shenandoah, then improved to 10-1 for the season with a Senior Day victory over Penn State-Altoona.

Mary Washington junior second baseman ERIC REHBEIN and Salisbury senior pitcher CHRIS GREINER were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Rehbein was named the Baseball Player of the Week after going 3-for-4 with a run scored in the Eagles 2-1 midweek victory over Catholic University. Greiner was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after throwing eight innings and getting the win in Salisbury’s 3-2 win over No. 1-ranked Christopher Newport. Grenier allowed just one unearned run on three hits and three walks while fanning 10 against the Captains.

Mary Washington junior shortstop BRENT STEFFEY and Salisbury senior pitcher NATE YOUNG were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Steffey was named the Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .563 (9-for-16) and leading the Eagles to four wins in five games last week, including a DH sweep Sunday vs. Frostburg State that clinched the No. 4 seed in the CAC playoffs for UMW. He added two doubles, a homer, four walks (.650 OBP), four runs scored, nine RBI during the week. Young was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after throwing six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over Wesley Saturday, earning his fourth win of the season. Young, who is riding a streak of 20-straight shutout innings, allowed two hits and three walks while fanning five Wolverines.

York junior center fielder STEVE TRETTER and Frostburg State senior pitcher BRITTON QUAYLE were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Tretter was named the Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .538 (7-for-13) with a double, homer, two walks, two runs scored and three RBI in four games. He helped YCP take two out of three against Mary Washington, solidifying its position in the CAC playoff hunt, with a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 Sunday. Quayle was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after gaining a win and two saves in three outings last week. He allowed 1 earned run on six hits and two walks while fanning 11 in eight innings, earning the victory as a starter in a non-conference win over Juniata and saves in both ends of Saturday’s twinbill at Wesley, which pushed FSU into second place in the CAC standings.

St. Mary’s sophomore shortstop COREY NAPIER and St. Mary’s sophomore pitcher DEVON JERRARD were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Napier was named the Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .471 (8-for-17) with a double, triple, three walks, four runs scored and three RBI in four games. He was 6-for-13 as SMC took two of three against CAC rival Mary Washington. Jerrard was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week after holding 22nd-ranked Mary Washington to five singles and a walk over eight innings in a 6-1 victory as the Seahawks won the series opener against the Eagles.

Wesley junior shortstop ROB BENEDICT and Salisbury senior pitcher DUSTIN HERBERT were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week. Benedict batted .444 (8-for-18) with a .667 slugging percentage in four games for the Wolverines. Among his four hits in a doubleheader sweep of 23rd-ranked Mary Washington were a pair of doubles. He also scored four runs and stole a base in the twinbill. Herbert salvaged one win in the Sea Gulls weekend trip to Frostburg State, throwing a three-hit, one walk complete-game shutout against the Bobcats, who had only two baserunners reach scoring position in a 1-0 game.

Salisbury freshman infielder JOHN SCHIOTIS and Mary Washington senior pitcher PARKER TALBERT were selected as the Baseball Athletes of the Week. Schiotis went 7-for-13, including at least one hit in all four games, and compiled seven runs scored, four extra base hits and 12 RBI as Salisbury won three of four games. He helped the Sea Gulls gain two wins in three games against CAC rival Mary Washington. In Saturday’s DH sweep against the Eagles, Schiotis pounded out five hits, including two doubles and two homers, scored five runs and finished with 10 RBI. Talbert won both of his starts this week. He allowed just three hits and a walk while fanning two in six innings against Randolph-Macon, then bounced back Sunday to scatter two runs on six hits and two walks while again fanning two as UMW salvaged one win in the three-game series against nationally-ranked and CAC-leading Salisbury.

Wesley junior shortstop ROB BENEDICT, St. Mary’s sophomore pitcher DEVON JERRARD and York senior ANDY ROSENZWEIG were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week for March 7, 2011. Benedict went 7-for-13 with a triple and two walks in three games for the Wolverines. He had three hits in WC’s two victories, including one against CAC rival York Saturday. He also had three runs scored and two RBI in the YCP twinbill and totaled five stolen bases in the week. Jerrard recorded his first career nine-inning complete-game victory, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while fanning five as SMC knocked off 23rd-ranked Salisbury. He closed the door with five perfect innings to end the game. Rosenzweig shares the weekly pitching honor after handing Wesley its second setback of the season with six shutout innings, scattering five hits and a walk while fanning three.

Stevenson freshman pitcher RYAN KELLOUGH and Wesley senior 2B KEVIN MURPHY were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week for Feb. 28, 2011. Kellough entered his first collegiate game in the fourth inning with the Mustangs on the short end of a 9-3 score vs. Gettysburg. He shut down the Bullets over the next six shutout innings, allowing just four hits while fanning four. The Stevenson offense responded by scoring twice in the last inning to complete the comeback and give Kellough the victory. Murphy went 8-for-17 (.471) in five games for Wesley, with a double, three walks, six runs scored and four RBI. Among his accomplishments are a CAC-record 40-game hitting streak, which is tied for sixth best in NCAA Div. III history and one of 25 players in all NCAA with a 40 (or more)-game hit streak. He also tied the team record with his 198th career hit.

St. Mary’s junior MICHAEL VICTORY (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.) and Frostburg State senior catcher COREY CARR (McHenry, Md./Northern Garrett) were selected as the CAC Baseball Athletes of the Week for Feb. 21, 2011. Victory threw a gem in a 2-0 win over CCNY, hurling 7.2 innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts, including the only two batters he faced in the eighth inning, and no walks. Carr had three multi-hit games on the way to a 7-for-14 week with three doubles, a homer, a walk four runs scored and six RBI for the Bobcats.
