Salisbury Wins Twice To Advance To CAC Baseball Championship Game; Tournament Postponed To April 28 Because Of Weather

The coaches from the three teams still alive in the 2012 CAC Baseball Championship Tournament agreed Saturday night to postpone the final two games of the event to April 28 because of the stormy weather predicted for the Salisbury area for Sunday.  However, that didn't happen until after the top-seeded host Sea Gulls won twice to advance to the championship game.

The final two games of the tournament - Game 10 pitting #5 Stevenson against #4 Wesley and Game 11, which features the winner of Game 10 against #1 Salisbury - has been postponed until Saturday, April 28 at Salisbury.  The tentative game time for Game 10 is 11 a.m.

Salisbury, ranked third nationally, staved off elimination in the first game of the day by defeating second-seeded York, 11-10.  The second game was also an elimination contest, and fifth-seeded Stevenson steadily pulled away for a 21-9 over third-seeded Frostburg State.

The final game of the day featured Salisbury trying to stay alive against fourth-seeded Wesley, which was undefeated after two games in the tournament.  The Gulls broke loose from a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning to gain a 9-4 victory, earning a berth in Game 11 of the tournament, which will determine the 2012 title and the CAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament.

The 66 runs scored in Saturday's three games continued the trend of the Tournament games played this weekend at Salisbury.  In the six games the last two days, the CAC teams have scored a total of 125 runs - 20.8 runs per game.

Top-seeded and third-ranked Salisbury won a pair of elimination games in the CAC tournament on Saturday at the SU Baseball Field. The first win was an 11-10 victory over York (Pa.) College for Head Coach Doug Fleetwood's 400th career win and the second an 11-4 complete-game win from junior Andrew Levy against Wesley, to advance to the championship game.

Against the Spartans, Salisbury (29-7) had an 8-4 advantage through six innings before allowing York (17-19) to storm back into the lead with five runs in the eighth. The Sea Gulls rallied for three in their half of the inning and senior Bill Morton (1-1) worked a hitless 1 2/3 innings for the win. The wins for Fleetwood, in his 12th year at Salisbury, bring his record to 401-127-6.

In the second game of the day, Levy (6-1) scattered 10 hits and four runs in his fourth complete game of the season and classmates Chris Connor and Tyler Bennett combined for three home runs. Connor tallied his second and third blasts of the season while Bennett picked up his third.

In the middle game of the day, Stevenson baseball senior Tony Prescott went 2-for-3 with six RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fourth, leading the Mustangs to tie its highest offensive production this season, defeating Frostburg State 21-9.  Prescott's 10th homer of the season ties him with Max Eckert who set the record in the 2010 campaign.  Stevenson (19-18-2) also plated 21 runs at home against St. Mary's (Md.) on Mar. 3 and is the seventh highest game total in program history.  The Mustangs scored in every inning except the third, including six runs in the second beginning with a two-run homer by junior Matt Bratter, his first of the season.  Bratter finished the afternoon going 4-for-6 with four RBIs.  Senior Justin Anderson also homered in the eighth, scoring junior Josh Morris.
