NCAA BASEBALL - LET'S PLAY 2 IN APPLETON!!! - After A Pair Of Rain Delays, Frostburg State And Salisbury Both Win Regional Titles

Both Frostburg State and Salisbury had to wait through lengthy rain delays, but in the end the two best baseball teams in the CAC this season won their respective regional championships and qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division III College World Series In Appleton, Wis.

Salisbury punched its ticket to Wisconsin a couple of hours earlier than FSU with a 12-2 victory over Alvernia, going 4-0 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in York, Pa.  Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, the CAC regular-season and playoff champion Bobcats completed an 8-4 victory over La Roche to win the Mid-East Regional crown - the first NCAA regional title in team history.

Both Salisbury and Frostburg State will play in the 8-team Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wis., beginning Friday.  It's the first time in CAC history that two teams advanced to the Division III College World Series.   Game times and opponents will be announced.

At York, Pa., rightfielder Tyler Hrycak led Salisbury's 13-hit attack with a long two-run homer during the Sea Gulls' six-run fifth inning.  Hrycak also had two other singles, two runs scored and three RBI as Salisbury ran away from the Crusaders, scoring in five of the first six innings.

Kyle Goodwin, with two doubles and three runs scored, along with Regional Tournament MVP Pete Grasso's 2-for-4 night with a run and an RBI, contributed for the winners.  

Because of the rain delay, pitchers Connor Shockley and Kyle Hamby split the mound duties, combining to surrender two earned runs on eight hits and three walks while fanning eight.  Shockley was credited with the win, improving to 7-0 for the season.

At Washington, Pa., Frostburg State scored two runs in each of the first four innings on the way to its first win in four tries this season vs. La Roche.  The #1-ranked Bobcats were swept by La Roche in a regular-season DH, then dropped to the loser's bracket with a 4-3 second-round setback to La Roche Thursday.

Rightfielder Connor Cooper and shortstop Ricky Castro each had three hits for FSU.  Cooper finished with two doubles and a single, a run scored and two RBI while Castro had three singles, a run and two RBI.

Greg Schneider was the starter for Frostburg State, allowing two earned runs on a hit and four walks while fanning seven in just three innings before the three-plus hour rain delay.  Jake Stephens pitched four of the final six innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk while fanning three, to get the win.
