NCAA BASEBALL REGIONALS: Salisbury Baseball Cruises Past Penn State Berks; Frostburg State Edged by La Roche

Salisbury cruised to a 16-5 victory over Penn State Berks in round two of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Thursday, while Frostburg State dropped a tight 4-3 contest to La Roche in the Mideast Regional. 

With the win, fourth-seeded Salisbury remains in the winner's bracket of the Mid-Atlantic Regional at Santander Stadium in York, Pa. The Sea Gulls (31-4-1) will now meet the winner of Thursday night's matchup between second-seeded Alvernia and sixth-seeded Misericordia on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Danny Breen and Kyle Goodwin led the Sea Gulls at the plate. Breen posted a monster 4-for-5 performance with a three-run homer, five RBIs and three runs scored, while Goodwin went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Pete Grasso added two hits, two RBIs and scored twice for SU in the landslide win over eighth-seeded Penn State Berks. Dan Fein earned the win on the mound, striking out six in 8.0 innings of work. 

In Washington, Pa., fourth-seeded La Roche doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand top-seeded Frostburg State a 4-3 defeat on the second day of the Mideast Regional. 

Due to the loss, Frostburg State will play on Friday at noon against Shenandoah. 

Frostburg State had its chances in the back-and-forth affair, rallying twice to tie the game before enduring the loss. The Bobcats (38-7) outhit the Redhawks (31-12), 12-9, and stranded 12 runners. The Bobcats scored a solo run in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1 and later plated two runs in the sixth to knot the score at 3-3.
 
Bobcat starter Bennett Schiltz tossed 8.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs, while striking out six. At the plate, Lane Farmer and Connor Cooper each finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Cooper added an RBI. Ricky Castro was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
