Salisbury, Frostburg State and Wesley Sweep Sunday CAC Baseball Twinbills

No. 11 Salisbury, No. 16 Frostburg State, and Wesley each posted CAC baseball doubleheaders sweeps on Sunday to move into the top three spots in the conference standings. 

With one week remaining in the regular season, Salisbury (11-4 CAC) and Frostburg State (11-4) are tied for first place, with Wesley (10-5) one game back in second place. All three have clinched playoff spots with three CAC games left. Fourth-place Marymount (9-6) has also secured a playoff spot, while the final two bids remain up for grabs. 

In York, Pa., Salisbury took game one 10-4 over York before winning 8-5 in the finale. Jake Dmiterchik and Tom Labriola belted home runs for the Sea Gulls in game one, with Dmiterchik posting three hits. In game two, Tom Labriola, Brad Keith and Mike Labriola each notched two RBIs for SU, while Logan Countryman blasted a grand slam for the Spartans. York slipped to 5-10 in the CAC with the losses, but remains in the playoff chase. 

In Frostburg, Md., Frostburg State swept Mary Washington. Junior Brad Garrant hit a two-run walkoff homerun in game one to lift the Bobcats, 5-4, and a four-run first inning coupled with an outstanding effort on the mound from sophomore Greg Schneider helped FSU to a 10-3 win in game two. The Eagles drop to 5-10 in the CAC with the defeats, but remain in contention for a playoff spot. 

In Dover, Del., Wesley earned a pair of tight one-run victories over visiting MarymountEric Willey went the distance for the Wolverines on the mound in game one, tossing nine innings for a complete-game victory. He scattered six hits allowing just two earned runs as the Wolverines edged the Saints 4-3. In game two, KeAndre Jones provided the game-winning hit, a walk-off single to right field in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the team a 5-4 victory.

CAC baseball action continues on Monday with a doubleheader in St. Mary's City, Md. as St. Mary's hosts Southern Virginia, beginning at noon.
