CoSIDA Academic All-America Baseball Team

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have announced today their 2016 Academic All-American Division III baseball team and recent Frostburg State graduate Zach Keeler has been honored for the second-straight year.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Keeler was honored as a First Team Academic All-American this spring at catcher after being selected to the second team a year ago as a designated hitter. Keeler is one of 11 honorees named to the first team and he is one of eight players to repeat as an Academic All-American covering the first, second and third teams.

Keeler, who graduated two weeks ago with a bachelor's degree in business, is the first male athlete in Frostburg history to earn two Academic All-American honors. He is also just the second male athlete overall to earn the honor and second baseball player.

A Walforf, Md. native, Keeler graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and majored in both business administration and economics.

He is a member of the International Business Society, Beta Gamma Sigma, that is only offered to the top 10 percent of business students and is a member of the President's Leadership Circle.

An NCAA Elite 89 finalist at last year's NCAA World Series, Keeler was named to the Dean's List all eight semesters at Frostburg and he is a four-time Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree.

On the field, Keeler hit .267 this spring with 40 hits, 20 runs scored, two home runs and 27 RBI.

He helped the Bobcats to a 30-14 overall record and their second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
