Salisbury and Frostburg State Drop NCAA Baseball Regional Openers

Salisbury and Frostburg State each suffered defeats in their opening games of the NCAA Baseball Regionals on Wednesday, sending both squads to the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournaments. 

At the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Moosic, Pa., third-seeded Salisbury fell to sixth-seeded Kean, 7-1, at PNC Field. The Sea Gulls will meet seventh-seeded Salve Regina in an elimination game on Thursday at 1:15 p.m.  

Pete Grasso led the Sea Gulls with his two hits, while Tyler Hrycak went 1-for-4 day with an RBI. 

At the New York Regional in Auburn, N.Y., third-seeded Frostburg State dropped an 11-8 decision to fourth-seeded Susquehanna in the third and final game of day one of the six-team regional. 

Susquehanna plated eight runs in the first inning and Frostburg State slowly chipped away at its deficit to pull within one at 9-8 in the eighth before suffering the loss.
 
The Bobcats will now face regional host and top seed Cortland State Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm. The contest will serve as an elimination game for Frostburg following tonight's loss to Susquehanna. The Red Dragons defeated Castleton 14-4 earlier today.

JT Tipton led FSU at the plate with a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs and a run scored. Cody Harman went 4-for-6 while KJ Hockaday went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
