Salisbury Baseball Falls to Roanoke in NCAA Regional Opener

Top-seeded Salisbury fell to sixth-seeded Roanoke 15-5 in its opening game of the NCAA South Regional on Friday morning in Danville, Va. 

The Sea Gulls will continue the double-elimination, six-team tournament on Friday at 11 a.m. SU will face the loser of second-seeded LaGrange and fifth-seeded Otterbein in Friday's opening game. 

Salisbury took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning, but Roanoke 13 runs in innings three through six to jump out to a comfortable cushion. 

The Sea Gulls had numerous chances to pull close in the closing innings, but Roanoke starter John Ruhlman and reliever Rawlings Cumbea kept the SU bats in check for the 15-5 final. 

Justin Meekins went 2-for-3 and scored twice and Ron Villone had a two-RBI double to lead the Sea Gulls at the plate.
