Complete Academic All-District Baseball Team

Christopher Newport senior Craig Johnson and York senior Seth Brosius have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. 

To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.

The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First team All-District honorees, like Johnson and Brosius, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in June.

CNU's Johnson received the honor for the second straight year. Starting in right field all season long for the Captains, Johnson has been an impact player in the middle of the CNU lineup. In the classroom, the CNU senior concluded his undergraduate career with a 3.85 cumulative GPA, majoring in Biochemistry. He will be attending medical school with career aspirations to become an anesthesiologist. A three-time selection to the CAC All-Academic Team, Johnson was also a 2017 Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State pick. 

The Chesterfield, Va. native has started 40 games in the outfield this year, hitting .309 while ranking third on the team with 40 runs driven in. Johnson has also scored 41 times while delivering 14 extra-base hits, including a career-high six home runs. He has enjoyed a career year across the board, helping lead the nationally-ranked Captains high-powered offense with personal high's in hits, homers, runs scored, RBI, and walks. Defensively, Johnson has a perfect season in 74 chances with four outfield assists. 

For his career, Johnson has been a staple in the Captains' lineup, playing 128 games with 106 starts. He is a .335 career hitter with 10 HR, 76 RBI, and 97 runs scored. His .439 career on-base percentage is just outside the top ten in program history. This season, he has helped the Captains score the third most runs in the nation (377) while ranking fifth nationally in total home runs (46) and seventh in total hits (484).  

York's Brosius was one of three outfielders selected to the District IV team which covers all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Brosius had another big season for the Green and White as he hit .353 with 43 runs scored, 17 doubles, five home runs and 48 RBIs for the Spartans. He had 59 hits, 91 total bases, a .545 slugging percentage and a .421 on-base percentage.

Brosius is a secondary education/mathematics major who owns a GPA of 3.55. Brosius is a four-time member of the Spartans' Dean List while he is also a four-time CAC All-Academic team member. He wrapped up his career playing in 140 games with 138 starts. He is a career .335 hitter with 114 runs scored, 44 doubles, two triples, and 14 home runs. Brosius totaled 124 RBI, 188 hits and 55 walks. He finished eighth in career hits, eighth in doubles, 11^thin runs scored, sixth in home runs and sixth in RBI.

Brosius was an All-Capital Athletic Conference selection last year and also earned All-South region accolades as a junior. The 2018 All-CAC teams have not yet been announced.
