FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport junior Seth Woodard, Frostburg State senior Greg Schneider, and Mary Washington sophomore Christian Hague earned CAC baseball weekly awards for March 12, 2018.  

Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Seth Woodard collected CAC Player of the Week accolades after reaching basing in 11 of his 13 plate appearances and helping the Captains post a 3-0 record in Myrtle Beach while outscoring their opponents 34-11. Woodard notched at least three hits in each contest as CNU defeated Bridgewater (Va.), Hampden-Sydney and Penn State Berks. For the week, he went 10-for-12 (.833) at the plate with five runs scored, five RBIs, three doubles, a .846 on-base percentage and a 1.083 slugging percentage. In CNU's closest game of the week, he went 4-for-4 with a walk against Hampden-Sydney in the 6-5 victory.

Frostburg State senior Greg Schneider was selected as the CAC Co-Pitcher of the Week after nearly tossing Division III's second no-hitter of the spring with a one-hit, 15-strikeout complete-game effort in a 5-0 win over Stevenson. Schenider surrendered the only hit in the ninth inning after retiring 25-consecutive Mustang batters. He also walked just one batter in his 9.0 innings of work. In all three of his starts this spring, Schneider has struckout 15 batters and boasts a 0.41 ERA.

Mary Washington sophomore Christian Hague was selected as the CAC Co-Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game one-hitter in a win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Friday. In his seven innings of work, Hague struck out a career-high 14 batters to improve to 2-1 on the season. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored in the victory.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the D3baseball.com week 2 rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 22 while Frostburg State and Salisbury are receiving votes ... CNU's Logan Harrelson earned the win on the mound against Bridgewater (Va.) in a neutral site contest in Myrtle Beach, tossing five scoreless frames while striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits. Harrelson now has an 8:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio for the year with 32 whiffs and only four walks ... Frostburg State junior Brock Antognoni registered six hits and hit .429 in three games last week ... Mary Washington junior Ramsis Ruiz turned in a stellar week for the Eagles, batting .417 with 10 hits, 11 runs scored, and six stolen bases, as UMW went 4-2 on the week. He drove in four runs and added two walks and a triple ... Marymount senior Dylan Gerdts had a career day on the mound on Saturday against St. Joseph's Brooklyn, tossing six innings for a career-high nine strikeouts, while giving up just one unearned run on five hits and walking one. Conner Hall hit .545 (6-for-11) at the plate for the Saints with four RBIs, four runs scored, and four doubles in a 3-0 week. Hall is currently sixth in the CAC in runs this year with 14 ... St. Mary's Jackson Edelman improved to 2-1 as Edelman posted his second complete game of the season in a 3-0 win over Lasell. Edelman threw a two-hit shutout with five walks and three strikeouts. Dakota Merritt helped St. Mary's to a 2-0 week by batting .600 for the weekend with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Merritt's weekend was highlighted by a 2-for-2 effort at the plate in the nightcap against Lasell, including connecting on a double to drive in the game-winning run in the fifth. He currently leads the CAC in hitting (.643) and slugging percentage (1.071) while ranking second with six doubles and a .684 on-base percentage ... Salisbury senior Wes Whitlock started two games for the Sea Gulls, pitching 13 scoreless innings, striking out 16 batters, and giving up no runs. His opponents combined to hit .071. In Saturday's game against SUNY Alfred, Whitlock went the distance, earning a complete game, two-hit shutout which included 12 strikeouts and only two walks. Senior Colby Dean hit .522 with seven RBIs and four runs scored in a 5-1 week for the Sea Gulls ... Southern Virginia's Seth Burris pitched seven innings in a win over SUNY Canton, allowing just three earned runs and just one extra-base hit. Burris leads the Knights with 23 strikeouts on the year, including six last week. In a 2-2 week for the Knights, Cole Critchfield hit .438 with six RBIs and six runs scored. Critchfield hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the Knights to give them the come-from-behind win ... York went 2-1 last week, with Grant Oberholtzer leading the way with a .636 batting average and five runs scored, three doubles, a home run and four RBIs. Junior Bobby Kuehn picked up his second win of the year on Saturday against Elmira, tossing five innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts in five innings of work.
