Salisbury Edged by Bowdoin 2-1 in NCAA Field Hockey Semifinals

Salisbury's NCAA Field Hockey Tournament run came to a close on Saturday, as third-ranked Bowdoin knocked off the top-ranked Sea Gulls 2-1 in the semifinal round in Lexington, Va.

The Sea Gulls conclude the year with a record of 19-2, while the Polar Bears (19-2) will meet the winner of Saturday's other semifinal between Middlebury and TCNJ in Sunday's championship game at 1 p.m.

Salisbury's Final Four appearance marked the 12th time a CAC team has reached the semifinals in conference history, and the ninth time the Sea Gulls have done so.

Bowdoin jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead on goals from Rachel Kennedy in the 11th minute and Mettler Growney in the 23rd minute. The Sea Gulls answered late in the first stanza, as Becca Rinaca finished an unassisted tally to pull Salisbury within a 2-1 deficit.

Neither team could find the back of the cage in the second half, however, as the Polar Bears walked away with the one-goal victory.

Rachel Clewer made 10 saves in goal for the Sea Gulls.
