Top Seeds Christopher Newport and Salisbury Advance to CAC Field Hockey Championship

CAC Field Hockey Tournament Bracket

Christopher Newport and Salisbury each recorded one-goal victories in the CAC field hockey semifinals on Wednesday, setting up a championship showdown between the top two seeds in the conference on Saturday.

Top-seeded CNU will host second-seeded Salisbury on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Newport News, Va. with the CAC title at stake. It will mark the third championship matchup between the two sides, with Salisbury coming away with one-goal overtime victories in both 2013 and 2014.

In Newport News, CNU (16-1) blanked fourth-seeded Mary Washington 1-0 behind a second-half strike from Courtney Fiest. UMW concludes the year with an 11-8 record.

In Salisbury, Md., Salisbury twice overcame deficits to rally past third-seeded York 3-2 in overtime. Less than nine minutes into the overtime period, Camryn Dennis fired home the game winner for the Sea Gulls off a penalty corner. The Spartans (12-6) gave the Sea Gulls everything they could handle, jumping on top early with a goal from Lindsay Nye in the 13th minute, and again taking the lead early in the second half on an Autumn Mallory tally. Dennis scored the first equalizer for the Sea Gulls in the 32nd minute, while Emily Lemanski evened things up again for SU in the 54th minute.
