BUENA VISTA, Va. – Southern Virginia University Vice President and Director of Athletics Jason Lamb today announced women's field hockey as the newest sport offered by the University, beginning as a club sport with the intent to become an NCAA program in 2019. Camille Lamb will serve as the team's first head coach.

"We're proud to offer a sport that is a part of the Capital Athletic Conference and hope that field hockey will join the conference next fall," Lamb said. "It's exciting to have another opportunity on our campus to attract new student-athletes."

Field hockey is an outdoor women's sport that is played in the fall. For the upcoming season, the Knights' new field hockey team will play a mix of college club and NCAA Division III teams in the National Field Hockey League before taking on a full D-III schedule in 2019. 

"We are fortunate to have Camille Lamb as the program's first head coach," Jason Lamb continued. "She has a great field hockey background and is a strong representative of what we are doing at Southern Virginia."

Camille (King) Lamb attended Southern Virginia from 2009-11 as a member of the cheer team. During the spring, she practiced with the Washington & Lee field hockey team. In 2011, Lamb transferred to BYU-Hawaii and was a member of the Oahu Island Field Hockey Team.

After graduating from BYU-Hawaii, Lamb was an assistant field hockey coach for her alma mater Red Hook High School in Upstate New York coaching a number of winter and summer league teams. She has also completed her level 2 coaching certification through USA Field Hockey. 

"Field hockey has always meant a lot to me and I'm excited to give LDS and like-minded athletes an opportunity to play after high school," Coach Camille Lamb said. "We will be the only collegiate field hockey team with LDS-aligned values and we can't wait to get started!"

Field hockey becomes the sixth sport added in four years under the leadership of Jason Lamb. Over the same time period, university enrollment has increased by 40 percent.
