Salisbury's Hughes, Christopher Newport's Fiest & York's Plappert Named NFHCA All-Americans

Three Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) field hockey players were named All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Salisbury junior defender Jillian Hughes earned first-team accolades, Christopher Newport sophomore midfielder Courtney Fiest garnered second-team honors and York junior Greta Plappert received third-team recognition.

Hughes, a defensive force for the Sea Gulls, was named the 2018 CAC Player of the Year and played a key role in the squad's stingy 0.64 goals against average, which was sixth-best in the nation.

Establishing herself as one of the nation's finest midfielders, Fiest was a lethal force for the Captains throughout the 2018 campaign. During the year, she led the CAC with seven assists while ranking third with 14 goals and 35 points.

Plappert was an offensive juggernaut as she led the CAC in points with 39 on 17 goals and five assists. She tallied at least one goal in 12 games including four multi-goal performances. She closed the season on fire with a five-game goal streak where she totaled nine goals during that stretch. Her 39 points rank fifth-most in program history for a single season and her 17 goals are tied for sixth-most all time.
